It was the 5th of December, 31 days before she turns 18.
She stared into her own eyes. As she examined her face, she thought about her entire existence – her physical features, her personality, her attitude and behavior, her skills and talents, and the life she has been living.
Before she was born, there were three little sisters who cannot sleep without whispering to their mother’s stomach, kissing their little sibling good night. Sometimes, they set aside their toys, clothes and even their favorite snacks for when they can finally play with her. They even had a name for her, Maria Angela Joy Solaida Celia. They spent months trying to find the perfect name for their little sister, writing every name they come up with on a small purple notebook. Maria Angela Joy Solaida Celia was their favorite, but their parents did not approve of such a long name. Instead, they picked one and personalized it.
How heartwarming it is to know that her presence brought so much joy to the people who are close to her.
She may not have five names, but ‘Angelle’ came from her sisters and parents.
“Sir, it’s pronounced as Einjellee” has become her line every first day of class. Everything about this name gave her meaning. It is not only a "name" but also her family.
Contrary to her religious name, her personality and attitude reflect the opposite. She does not have a voice as sweet as an angel, she has a voice that speaks loud, harsh truth. She does not believe in God as the only thing she worships is peace and justice. She does not pray to anyone; she only believes in the power of actions.
This name may not define her; it defines her family and the bond they share.
